Thor & Fröhlich Duo

Thor & Fröhlich Duo consists of two young and talented classical musicians who, among other accolades, have received the Sydbank Chamber Music Prize. Johan Thor (guitar) and Carl Fröhlich (piano) met at the Orkesterefterskolen in Holstebro and currently study together at MGK Midtvest.

The duo possesses a unique ability to communicate and express musical nuance together — a quality made possible by their long-standing friendship and deep mutual understanding, despite the unusual instrumental combination.

The duo aims to create concerts that are welcoming to everyone, regardless of their familiarity with classical music. Their performances span a wide range of styles, countries, and historical periods.

Due to the limited repertoire for this somewhat uncommon instrumental combination, their concerts also feature a variety of solo performances from both musicians. In addition, their concerts can be seen as a kind of musical lecture, as elements of music history are woven between the pieces.

About Carl

Carl Christian Fröhlich was born in 2005 and began playing the piano at the age of eight. At seventeen, he made the decision to move away from his family on the island of Ærø to pursue his musical development in Holstebro. He now studies at MGK, where he receives instruction from Jacob Lidåkra, a graduate of the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki.

In addition, he is a guest student at the renowned piano school Gradus in Aarhus — an elite institution for young pianists — where he studies with conservatory teacher and piano pedagogue Martin Lysholm.

In 2024, he won the chamber music prize at the “Unge Spiller Klassisk” competition. He has also performed at events such as the Orkesterefterskolen Chamber Music Festival and the Søbygaard Literature Festival. He has received masterclasses from Denmark’s leading classical musicians as well as internationally acclaimed pianists such as Dina Yoffe and Kevin Kenner.
